For sale here is a Payne model 98, 7' 2/2 5wt bamboo rod. Expertly restored by Steve Blake, it remains in excellent condition. Oxidized snake guides and red agate stripping guide, wrapped in chestnut windings with gold tipping and purple accents. Medium toned cane and the varnish is in excellent shape. All sections straight and full length, and the ferrules fit perfectly. Strap & ring hook keeper, 5.5" cork grip (clean & smooth), and up-locking reel seat over Spanish cedar spacer. The Payne roll stamp on the screw collar is clear and crisp. Weight is 3.30oz. It casts a DT5 well, especially in close, although some may prefer it with a 4wt. Medium fast action, a delightful small stream rod. Ready to get back on the water. Sold in the original bag (with permanent marker) and brass capped tube, sans label.
