Winston, R.L. - 8' 2/1 5wt (3 3/4oz) Bamboo Rod

For sale here is an R.L. Winston 8' 2/1 5wt bamboo rod in excellent+ original condition. Oven tempered cane with 3x3 nodes, bright snake guides and carbide stripping guide. Wraps are "putty" colored with oxblood accents. Overwrapped Duronz ferrules fit perfectly, and each section is full length, straight & serialized (#9718). Strap & ring hook keeper and black Bakelite winding check, and the original owner's name is scripted on the butt above the model info. Skeleton cork grip is smooth and bright, and the rod is fitted with a bright aluminum cap & ring reel seat. The varnish is perfect and the rod appears to have seen very little use. Scripted weight is 3 3/4oz, but my scale read a refreshingly lithe 3.44oz. Medium action, Winston rates the 3 3/4oz 8-footer as a 5wt but I like this rod with a WF4. It is a lovely casting SF-era Winston cane rod, sold in the original bag and tube. This item comes from Dean Malencik’s generous donation of vintage rods & reels to Trout Unlimited.
