Winston, R.L. - 8' 2/1, 4oz (5/6wt) Bamboo Fly Rod
For sale here is a Lew Stoner-era Winston 8' 2-piece / 1 tip, 4oz (stated & actual) bamboo rod in very good original condition. Serial #7864, Winston records show the rod was made in March, 1956. Medium tempered cane with golden tan windings and red accents. Carbaloy stripping guide with low bridge and bright snake guides throughout. Overwrapped Duronz ferrules fit perfectly. Strap & ring hook keeper and black bakelite winding check, 6" cork grip with down-locking aluminum reel seat over bakelite spacer. Winston rates this configuration as a light 6wt, though I prefer it with a 5. A few of the guide wraps may have been touched up with varnish, but otherwise the rod is in all original condition. Guides and ferrules are tight and the varnish is in good shape. The first guide down from the tip top has pulled out of its wraps completely and will need to be re-wrapped (original chrome snake guide will ship with the rod). This is the only consideration that needs immediate attention, and the rod is priced to sell with this in mind. Action is medium fast, truly a fantastic all-around trout rod. Sold in original sock and tube with 75% label.
