For sale here is a San Francisco Thompson model 500 fly reel in very good used condition. Black finish, metal line guard and smooth brass foot. RHW. 3 3/8" diameter with a spool width of 1 1/8", a nice size for steelhead and light salmon. The genius in the Thompson reel design is the dual-brake mechanism. One brake incorporates a classic click pawl with adjustable presser bar, and the other has a brake shoe that bears on the spindle directly. Both are connected to independent tensioners, allowing for precision drag tuning. Mechanically tight with cosmetic signs of use, the reel comes loaded with line and backing. Sold in a shearling lined zipper case.
