For sale here is a model 856, 8' 2-piece / 2-tip bamboo rod for a 5-6wt line, from the bench of Bob Summers. Serial #9294. Excellent used condition throughout. Nicely flamed cane with bright snake guides wrapped in transparent bronze windings and black tipping. Nickel silver step down ferrules are deeply blued and the fit is perfect. The rod is also fitted with an aluminum and cork ferrule plug, attached to the top of the bag. All sections are straight, full length & serialized. Wet and Dry tips are differentiated with wraps at the tip tops. Garrison-style hook keeper, 6.5" grip with thumb relief and down-locking aluminum reel seat over fine wood spacer. The pocketed nickel silver butt cap reads "R.W. Summer Co. - Traverse City, MI, USA". Strong and very smooth parabolic action, I like it with both 5 and 6wt lines. The Model 856 is one of Bob's most celebrated tapers, and this is a great example. Sold in original bag and tube with the Summers signature concave brass cap.
