Summers, R.W. - Model 856 8' 2/2, 5/6wt Bamboo Fly Rod

For sale here is a model 856, 8' 2 piece/2 tip bamboo rod for a 5-6wt line, from the bench of Bob Summers. Serial #6586, this rod was made in 1986 and remains in excellent condition. Beautifully flamed cane with bright snake guides wrapped in transparent bronze windings. Oxidized nickel silver step-down ferrules fit perfectly, and the rod is fitted with a bamboo ferrule plug. Both tips are dry fly tips, and they are marked for ease of rotation. All sections are full length, straight, and serialized. Garrison-style hook keeper, 6.5" ventilated grip and down-locking aluminum reel seat over handsome walnut spacer. The pocketed nickel silver butt cap reads "R.W. Summer Co. - Traverse City, MI, USA", and the original owners name is inked above the hook keeper. The ventilated grip helps accentuate the parabolic action of the rod and would have been a special order (not common on these rods). The butt section received an overcoat at some point, likely performed by Mr. Summers himself. The model 856 is probably his most celebrated configuration, and for good reason. Wonderful parabolic dry fly action, it's casts a modern WF5 very nicely. Sold in original bag and brass capped tube. The bottom cap on the tube has a split but remains fastened securely.
