Powell, E.C. - 9'6" 2/1 Tournament Distance Bamboo Rod
For sale here is an E.C. Powell 9'6" 2-piece / single tip bamboo rod, made for tournament distance casting. Excellent condition throughout, made for A.E. Kern Jr. whose name is written on both sections. The rod is signed "E.C. Powell - Maker", an interesting and rather unusual feature. The sections are straight, full length, and free of repair. These rods typically featured more extreme hollowing than a standard trout rod, and this one has tight intermediate wraps to protect the thinner walls. Ferrule fit is perfect, and the rod weighs a hair over 7oz. 6.5" cork grip is smooth and lightly soiled, and the rod is fitted with the standard EC Powell up-locking reel seat over Bakelite spacer. The Powell stamp is clear and crisp on the interrupted threads of the reel seat. Tournament distance rods were built like race cars and subjected to extreme forces; it's uncommon to see one in such nice condition. Sold in the original bag and tube. The brass tube collar is split, but the cap screws on just fine. From the collection of Per G. Brandin. This rod is also featured in Per's book on the life and rods of E.C. Powell.
