Powell, E.C. - 9' 3/2 Bamboo Rod - A-Taper

For sale here is an E.C. Powell 9' 3-piece / 2-tip A-taper rod in very good condition. Solid built construction, the butt is scripted with the taper (A-8x1/6). This is an uncommon feature and appears to have been inked in the Powell shop. Oxidized snake guides with red agate stripping guide, wrapped in dark gold windings. 4 intermediate wraps on the butt and single intermediates between guides. The butt has received a partial overcoat to protect the ~10" up from the grip, and one of the tips has been re-wrapped. All sections are straight and full length, and the ferrules fit perfectly. 6" cork grip is clean and slightly ridged, especially around the thumb relief near the top. Strap & ring hook keeper with intact ring. Standard Powell uplocking reel seat over black composite spacer. A tip-flexing / butt-resisting action, on the faster side of medium fast. Best with a 6wt line, I give a slight edge to a WF6 vs a DT6. 5 3/4oz scripted weight, although my scale reads slightly less (5.6oz). A somewhat historic rod, once owned by national casting champion Herman Hittenberger. The rod is also immortalized in Per Brandin's book on the life and rods of E.C. Powell (p38 & p61). Sold in the original bag and tube (no label). From the collection of Per G. Brandin.
