For sale here is a very nice E.C. Powell 9' 2/2 6wt B-taper bamboo rod in excellent condition. Originally purchased by the father of Larry Kenney, best known for his work with Harry Wilson in the early days of the Scott Rod Company before making rods under his own name. Larry's father ordered this rod in 1940, and it was finally delivered in 1947. Copies of the original invoice, a letter from E.C. Powell to Kenney's father and a letter from Larry Kenney are included with the sale - a lovely bit of provenance. The rod itself is in excellent shape. Semi-hollow construction, golden bronze windings with full intermediates. Bright ferrules fit perfectly and the sections are all full length & straight. Patent number is scripted on the butt above the black/white wraps indicating a semi-hollow cedar core rod. 6" grip is soiled with light ridging to a few cork rings (most notably at the top of the grip). Aluminum screw lock reel seat over Bakelite spacer, and the Marysville stamping is visible on the thread barrel. Weight is 4 1/4oz. Action on the medium side of medium fast, a smooth progressive taper best suited for a DT6 line. A very nice E.C. Powell B-taper rod, ready to fish or collect.
