Powell, E.C. - 8'6" 2/2, 4 1/8oz Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a scarce 8'6" 2/2 EC Powell B taper rod. Good refinished condition with a few cosmetic considerations. The rod features medium tempered cane with guides wrapped in dark gold windings and black & white accents at the hook keeper indicating semi-hollow, cedar core construction. Narrow agate stripping guide, flap ring hook keeper and 6" cork grip (slightly soiled & ridged). Standard up-locking reel seat with bakelite spacer and Marysville, CA stamp. All sections are straight & full length, and the ferrule fit is perfect. The butt ferrule and one tip ferrule have been re-set and re-wrapped in slightly lighter thread. One tip top is missing it's wraps over the barrel, showing the Powell technique of splitting the tip top. This same tip has been re-wrapped down to the second intermediate and the wraps don't quite line up with the other tip. A bit unsightly, but stable and fishable as-is. A few of the guides and intermediates have been re-wrapped in slightly darker thread. The script on the butt sections reads " A.E. Kern, Jr. 8 1/2' 4 1/8", and "8 1/2' 4 1/8oz" is scripted at the tip ferrules. This appears to be in Doug Merrick's hand, and I suspect the darker re-wraps were performed at Winston. The actual weight of the rod is 4oz and despite it's cosmetic issues is a nice caster. I prefer it with a DT or WF5, though it will handle a DT6 as well. I have yet to meet a sub-9' Powell that didn't put a smile on my face, and this is no exception. A fine fishing rod, ready to be put back in service. Sold in the original pea-green bag and original tube, sans label.
