Payne - Parabolic 7'9" 2/2 Bamboo Fly Rod

For sale here is a 7'9" Payne Parabolic, 2-piece / 2-tip for a 5wt line. The rod is in good, original condition, with a few exceptions. One tip is down ~1.5", the other sections are full length and all are straight. The tip top on the full length tip had a broken loop, and a correct replacement Perfection tip top has been fitted to the section (the original broken tip-top will be included with the sale). The rod features blued snake guides with red agate stripping guide, wrapped in chestnut silks with gold tipping and purple accents at the ferrules. Ferrules fit perfectly, and the bluing remains very much intact. A few of the thread wraps are starting to show signs of drying, most notably at the ferrules. The cane is medium tempered and the varnish shows a few superficial scuffs and scratches. The accent wraps above the strap & ring hook keeper are missing. 6" western style cork grip is soiled but smooth. This is an unusual Payne Parabolic, fitted with an up-locking screw-lock reel seat over Spanish cedar spacer, rather than the typical skeleton cork seat seen on the vast majority of Parabolics. The roll stamps on the seat read "Payne" in cartouche on one side and "Sold By Abercrombie & Fitch - New York" on the other. The rod is sold in the original bag (holes in the bottoms of the tip compartments), and tube with no label. The action of the rod isn't overly parabolic, which is typically the case for the Payne Parabolic series. I have cast both tips with a 4wt and 5wt, and I like a DT5 best. A desirable Payne with an unusual reel seat, almost certainly a special order at the time. Fishable as-is, though priced with the conditional considerations in mind.
