Payne - Model 98, 7' 2/2 4wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a Payne 98, 7' 2/2 4wt bamboo rod in excellent+ condition. All original, "sold by" Abercrombie & Fitch. Golden toned cane with snake guides an Perfection stripper. Wraps are color preserved chocolate brown with gold tipping and dark purple accents. All sections are full length & straight, and the blued 10/64 ferrules fit perfectly. The female is fitted with the classic finial ferrule plug. Strap & ring hook keeper, nickel silver checks and 5" grip. The cork is smooth with just a hint of soiling, and the rod is fitted with Jim Payne's standard cap & ring reel seat over Spanish cedar spacer. The original bluing is in excellent shape, and the butt cap retains the Payne roll stamp with "Sold by Abercrombie & Fitch - New York" on the reverse. Scripted weight is 2 7/8oz but my scale reads a bit less (closer to 2 5/8oz). Delightful medium-soft action. This rod flexes well into the butt section with a DT4 and some may even prefer it with a DT3. An extremely fine example of perhaps the best Payne light line taper. It would be difficult to upgrade from this one. Sold in the original bag (hole in the bottom) with hangtag and brass capped tube with red A&F label intact.
