Payne - Model 98, 7' 2/2 4wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a superb Payne 98, 7' 2/2 4wt bamboo rod. Excellent original condition, featuring caramel toned bamboo, oxidized steel snake guides and Perfection stripping guide. Blued ferrules (11/64) fit perfectly, and the bluing remains very dark. All sections are straight & full length. Skeleton cork grip & reel seat with blued cap & ring hardware. The pocketed butt cap retains the Payne stamping on one side and "Sold by Abercrombie & Fitch - New York" on the opposite. 2 7/8oz stated & actual weight. Action on the medium side of medium fast, a wonderful dry fly rod. Best with a DT4 but it also casts a DT5 quite nicely, especially at short range. A survivor in all respects; the rod has seen sparing use and remains in fantastic shape. The only note I have is that the tube is long enough to accommodate a Payne ferrule plug, but none is present. I strongly suspect this rod was delivered with a plug and it was lost along its way. It packs into the original poplin bag with intact hang tag and brass capped tube with red A&F label affixed.
