Windings are chestnut brown with gold tipping, and the rod looks like it was completely rewrapped. 6\" grip shows light soiling and light ridging, and the rod is fitted with the rare down-locking reel seat with \"acorn\" butt cap. The Payne stamp is crisp on the pocketed butt cap, and the female ferrules are fitted with the standard Payne aluminum plugs. Measured weight is 4 5\/8oz, which agrees precisely with the hang tag weight. Medium fast action, I think it shines with a DT5 although some may prefer a 6wt line. Reportedly restored by the H.L. Leonard Rod Co for Tom Collins, one time partner in the E.F. Payne Rod Co. This doesn't make much sense as Tom Collins pre-deceased Jim Payne, however the rod remains a nicely restored 3-tip model 202.
