For sale here is a Payne 103, 8' 2-piece / 2-tip 6wt bamboo rod in excellent original condition. A 1960's rod, marked "Made for Abercrombie & Fitch" on the butt cap. Medium tempered cane with oxidized snake guides and carbide stripping guide, wrapped in chestnut windings with gold tipping and royal purple accents at the windings check and ferrules. The sections are straight and full length, and the 14/64 ferrules fit perfectly. The snake guide closest to the butt ferrule received a light overcoat at some point. Strap & ring hook keeper over 6" cork grip (soiled but smooth), blued cap & ring reel seat over mortised Spanish cedar spacer. The bluing on the reel seat shows some wear from honest use, especially on one side. The butt cap roll stamp remains clear and crisp. Weight is 4.45oz. Medium fast, dry fly action. A beautiful, original example of a scarce taper. Sold in the original bag and brass capped tube (sans label).
