Paul Young - Para 14, 8' 2/2 5wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is an interesting Paul Young Para 14 8' 2-piece / 2-tip 5wt bamboo rod, attributed to PHY friend and associate Don West. The rod is in very good original condition, although one tip top is a replacement and the first guide down from that tip top has been re-wrapped. Mottled flamed cane with oxidized snake guides wrapped in golden tan spiral windings. The tips are inked "14-Par-Trout - - 2.58oz", and the tip tops are wrapped differently for ease of rotation. Ferrules fit perfectly and each section is straight and full length. All-cork tapered grip and reel seat with thumb relief and cap & ring PHY hardware. The top of the cork grip has the rod weight written in permanent marker, though the numbers are difficult to make out. Sold in original bag and replacement tube.
Don West built out a number of rods on Paul Young blanks, and this may be the only example of a Don West Para 14. Strong parabolic action, I find the rod to be a true 5wt. The attention to detail might not have been up to par with the Paul H Young shop, but the rod remains an intriguing original example of an extraordinarily scarce model.
