Paul H. Young - Para 17, 8'6" 2/2 7-8wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a Paul Young Para 17 8'6" 2/2 7-8wt bamboo rod in excellent used condition. Made around 1980 by Jack Young, a few years after Bob Summers left the firm. Featuring darkly flamed cane, dark guides and high-bridge carbide stripping guide, wrapped in dark brown windings. All sections are straight, full length & serialized (#4805). Bright ferrules fit perfectly, and they have taken on the golden hue of aged varnish. Jack Young's script reads "A Paul H. Young Co. Rod - Parabolic 17 8'6" 5.40oz". 6.4" grip is smooth with a hint of soiling, and the rod is fitted with a black aluminum reel seat over cork spacer. Minor finish loss to the reel seat hardware, about what you would expect from a lightly used rod. Scripted weight is 5.4oz but the actual weight is slightly less at 5.08oz. A strong, parabolic rod; the action is quite smooth, and the proper timing is easy to find. I expected it to be more of a DT8, but I prefer a DT7. The rod loads well at short and long ranges, a delightful example of the taper by Jack Young. Sold in the original khaki twill bag and Champion-style tube.
