Needham, Omar - 7' 2/2 7wt Penta Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a "Needham Special" 7' 2/2 7wt, 5-strip bamboo rod in excellent used condition. Medium tempered cane with bright guides wrapped in dark bronze windings. The tip-tops, ferrules and hook keeper are wrapped dark brown. Blued step-down ferrules fit perfectly and all sections are straight & full length. 6" grip is soiled but smooth, and the rod is fitted with an up-locking anodized reel seat over wood spacer. Rated for a 7wt, but it loads quite well with a 6. Short, powerful rods like this are a lot of fun to cast, and this one feels like it would be a great rod for big bushy dries or streamers. Omar Needham worked for Orvis in the late 1930's/early 1940's, alongside the more renown makers Harold "Pinky" Gillum and Wes Jordan. After leaving Orvis he continued making rods under his own name up in Rangeley Maine. He is thought to have made a few hundred rods total and they are cherished by those who own them. This one is sold in the original bag and tube with faded maker's decal. From the collection of Thomas H. Clark.
