For sale here is an 8' 2/2 5wt "Trout Bum" from George Maurer / Sweet Water rods. Serial #2001-04, the rod is in excellent+ used condition. Medium flamed cane with 3x3 nodes. Bright snake guides and ceramic stripping guide, wrapped in translucent apricot windings. Swiss-style ferrules fit perfectly, and all sections are straight & full length. The rod has a nicely swelled butt and nickel silver winding check with NS cap & ring reel seat over mortised wood spacer. The 6.25" grip is clean and smooth. Stated weight is 4.4oz, but the actual weight is closer to 4.25oz. The original "Trout Bum" model was a 6wt, the very first example was sent to John Gierach for testing but was stolen en route. It was immortalized in his essay "Lost Rod". Eventually the 6wt was called the "Rocky Mountain Trout Bum" and the lighter 5wt was just called "Trout Bum". This is one of those lighter rods, and I find it to be a pure 5wt. Medium fast semi-parabolic action, this rod would cover my bases in a wide variety of fishing situations. Just a great trout rod ready for action. Sold in the original bag and brass capped tube.
