For sale here is an H.L. Leonard model 50 1/2 DF, 8'6" 3/2 4wt in very good original condition. Medium tempered cane with English twist guides and gray agate stripping guide. Pale green silk windings with red tipping. All sections are straight & full length. The waisted patent date ferrules fit perfectly, and are witness marked for ease of alignment. Strap & ring hook keeper with aluminum winding check, NS cork check and cap & ring reel seat over white cedar spacer. The butt cap retains the H.L. Leonard roll stamp in cartouche, with "Tournament" stamped on the reverse. the cork shows mild soiling and very light ridging, but not objectionably so. There are scattered checks in the varnish and a few small spots where it softened and set back up; overall it's in good condition for its age. This is one of those outstanding pre-fire Leonard rods with very fine tip tapers and responsive medium-fast action. Most 50 1/2 DF's straddle the line between 4 & 5wt, but this is a true 4wt. A remarkable caster and one of the better Leonard trout rods I've seen. Sold in the original bag with hangtag & brass capped tube. From the collection of Per G. Brandin.
