For sale here is a Gary Howells 8' 2/2 5wt, 3 7/8oz bamboo rod in near mint condition. Serial #4345, made in 1978. Featuring honey tempered cane, bright guides and carboloy stripping guide wrapped in mahogany windings with gold tipping. All sections are straight & full length, and the 14/64 ferrules fit perfectly. Strap & ring hook keeper, nickel silver winding check and 6" cork grip over Howells' standard screw-lock reel seat & spacer. The cork clean and smooth and a hint of red staining from the rod bag. Scripted and actual weight is 3 7/8oz. Medium, full flexing action, best with a DT5. A classic Howells trout rod and one of his most popular tapers. The rod has been lawn cast but remains perfect. Sold in the original bag and tube with maker's label affixed. This item comes from Dean Malencik’s generous donation of vintage rods & reels to Trout Unlimited.
