For sale here is an 8' 2/2 4wt Gary Howells bamboo rod in excellent original condition. Medium tempered cane, bright guides and carbide stripping guide. Wraps are color preserved chestnut brown with gold tipping. Overwrapped ferrules fit perfectly (13/64). All sections are straight, full length & serialized (#4502, made in 1978). Strap & ring hook keeper over 6" cork grip (clean & smooth). Bright aluminum cap & ring reel seat over cork spacer. Rather rare to see an 8-foot Howells with the cap & ring reel seat; you may search for a long time before finding a nicer example. This is the lightest 8' model made by Gary, scripted weight is 3 5/8oz (a hair lighter on my scale, closer to 3 1/2oz). Medium, full working action. A smooth caster capable of turning over a long leader, it feels like a textbook spring creek rod. The varnish is superb and overall, the rod is in excellent shape. Sold in the original bag and tube with data label affixed.
