Hidy, Jim - 8'6" 5wt 3/3 Hollowbuilt Bamboo Fly Rod

For sale here is an 8'6" 5wt, 3-piece / 3-tip hollowbuilt bamboo rod from the bench of Jim Hidy. Excellent used condition, this rod also comes with a leather clad Arne Mason made rod tube. Medium tempered cane with oxidized snake guides wrapped in transparent brown silk, double wrapped at the guide feet. The rod features blued truncated Swiss-style ferrules, carbide stripping guide, and strap and ring hook keeper. There is one small surface chip to the varnish above the serial number and one of the signature wraps is just barely starting to fray, though I had trouble seeing it without magnification. 6" slender wells grip is slightly soiled, but smooth. Nickel silver cork check and cap & ring reel seat over a beautiful mortised wood spacer. All sections are full length and straight, although the strong tip has the slightest of casting sweeps. The butt section and tips are serialized (J227 H-3) and the tips are marked at both the ferrule and tip-tops for ease of rotation. Two standard tips are included, along with a slightly stronger tip (marked with an "S"), made for throwing heavier lines and bigger flies. The strong tip also casts a DT6 beautifully. Powerful medium action, it loads nicely in close and packs a punch at longer distances. The Arne Mason tube has "Hidy Rod Co." tooled into the front and features a brass closure. The tubes are no longer being made and they were an expensive upgrade at the time. A truly deluxe Hidy rod ready for service!
