Hard Rubber "Watch Case Atomizer" Dry Fly Oiler

For sale here is a "Watch Case Atomizer" No. 11, from the American Hard Rubber Co., patented August 1, 1899. These atomizers were adopted by fly fishermen in the early 1900's as a dry fly oil applicator. The orange tip indicates that this is the "No. 11", intended for oily fluids, as opposed to the black tipped "No. 10" which was for less viscous, watery fluids. Seldom found in such good condition, the hard rubber shows almost no signs of sun-fade or wear and the printing is crisp and clear. Included in the pictures is a scan from the 1930 William Mills & Son fishing catalog showing the Hard Rubber Atomizer for sale.
