Sold Out
For sale here is an 8'9" 2/2 bamboo rod made by Harold "Pinky" Gillum. A light steelhead/salmon rod, the 8'9" rods are scarcely seen. Medium tempered cane with Resorcinol glue lines, oxidized snake guides and Perfection stripping guide. Wraps are medium gold with black & tan accents at the ferrules and winding check. All sections are straight, full length and serialized (I-708). Super-Z ferrules fit perfectly. 7.5" cork grip is relatively clean but ridged. Up-locking reel seat over mahogany spacer, the screw lock reads "H.S. Gillum - Maker" in cartouche. The butt cap detaches to accept a 3 3/4" aluminum fighting butt with hard rubber cap. A very pleasant 7/8wt with a decidedly progressive action and responsive tips. On the faster side of medium fast, especially with a long belly 7wt. A "used but not abused" rod, the varnish has some micro-alligatoring and very light bag-burn, mostly on the butt section. A very nice original Gillum salmon rod, although it would be worth giving the varnish some attention. Sold in the original bag and brass capped tube (w/ partial label). The tube and fighting butt pack into a canvas tube protector made by Jean Gobillot.
