Edwards, E.W. - 7' 2/2 3wt - Made for A&F

For sale here is an early 7' 2-piece/2-tip Eustis Edwards 3wt bamboo rod made in Brewer, ME. One tip is original, the other made by George Guba. Lightly flamed cane with 3x3 nodes. Small English twist guides & red agate stripper. The guides and ferrules are wrapped gold with red tipping, and gold intermediates throughout. The sections are straight and full length and the 11/64 ferrules fit perfectly. The Guba tip is fitted with a replacement ferrule and what appear to be period-correct replacement guides. The cane is fully wrapped in gold thread from the tip tops to the first snake guide, and the swelled butt features Edwards' signature wraps of slightly increasing width towards the winding check. 4" cork grip is lightly soiled and slightly ridged. Cap & ring reel seat over light wood spacer. The butt cap is simply engraved with "A&F Co. - NY". Most of the guides and intermediates have seen a light overcoat, and the 5th intermediate up from the signature wraps is missing. The rod weighs 2.40oz with the original tip, and slightly less at 2.36oz with the Guba tip. It casts a modern DT3 nicely, though I suspect it would handle a lighter 4wt as well. A delightful and historic rod, as there are very few surviving examples from the early Brewer-era. Sold in a replacement bag and tube. From the collection of Per G. Brandin.
