For sale here is a Jack Coyle "Para-Companion" bamboo rod in excellent+ condition. 6-strip, solid built construction, the rod consists of two different butt sections, a mid and two tips, making an 8' 3-piece 5wt or 7'2" 3-piece 4/5wt. Two versatile configurations with parabolic actions (the 7'2" is based on a PHY Driggs taper). Medium flamed cane with lightly oxidized snake guides and red agate stripping guide on the longer butt section. Pale brown windings with dark tipping, each section is straight, full length and serialized (#12-20). Ferrules fit perfectly, and each female ferrule is fitted with a ferrule plug (the 7'2" has a longer bamboo ferrule plug to make up room in the rod bag). Cork grips are clean and smooth, and both rods have slide band reel seats (up-locking on the 8', down-locking on the 7'2"). 1 standard and 1 light tip; you can feel the difference but it's subtle. The 8-footer is a progressive, medium fast 5wt, especially with the light tip. The 7'2" is a lively semi-parabolic 5wt, although I also like it with a DT4. Minor signs of use, the rod has been fished sparingly by the maker and remains in excellent shape. Jack's rods are the height of craftsmanship, and opportunities to purchase on the secondary market are rare. Sold in the original bag and brass capped tube with data label and outer tube protector.
