API - Spring Creek Fly Reel

For sale here is a scarce API Spring Creek fly reel, made by Angling Products Incorporated. Theses reels were designed by Oscar Kovalovsky (son of big game reel maker Arthur Kovalovsky), and produced by A.P.I. This is #60 of a limited of 100 reels made in the 1980's. Jet black anodized finish, the reel measures 3 5/8" diameter with large, but narrow 2 1/4" arbor; great for picking up line fast. Best for 4-6wt lines. Neutral bias can be fished RHW or LHW. Excellent used condition with two condition notes: the bottom of the frame has one small nick and there is a small hairline crack on the side of the spool release latch. This seems like a common point of weakness, I've seen this flaw on about 50% of the API Spring Creek's I've handled but I have yet to see one turn into a bigger issue. Ingenious click and pawl design, the entire check mechanism threads out of the center of the reel which allows you to remove the spool. The reel has a very crisp click and pawl action and is counterbalanced internally for smooth operation. The handle is offset from the edge of the spool for fast retrieve. Sold in an aftermarket Abel case.
