For sale here is an Orvis 1874 fly reel in excellent original condition. 2nd model with riveted pillars and large spindle cover on the back side. Fixed click & pawl check is neutral, but the reel should only be used RHW (the handle threads on). Nickel plated finish shows some brassing in spots but remains mostly intact. The handle spins freely and the foot is full length. One small wave on the thin edge of the frame (purely cosmetic). Weight is 4.48oz. A tight example of a scarce early Orvis reel. These are considered to be the first ventilated fly reels ever produced. Sold in a walnut box with brass hardware.
