Winston, R.L. - 7'6" 3/1, 2 3/4oz (4wt) Bamboo Fly Rod

For sale here is an unusual San Francisco era 7'6" 4wt 3-piece, single tip Winston bamboo rod. 3 3/8 oz stated and actual weight, Winston records show this was originally a 2-tip rod, made in 1965 during Gary Howells tenure with the company (Serial #9206). Very few 3-piece rods were made during this time period, making this an unusual and rather scarce rod. Medium tempered cane with classic Winston golden tan windings and crimson red accents. Carbaloy stripping guide with bright snakes throughout. Strap and ring hook keeper with light brown winding check. Skeleton cork grip with aluminum sliding band reel seat. The sections are full length and straight, save for a slight fishing set in the tip section. Branded Super-Z ferrules (a very unusual, though not unheard of feature on SF-era Winston rods) fit perfectly. The rod received an overcoat at some point and there are a few small bubbles and runs visible. A previous owners name and the year "1988" was added to the rod in block letters above the factory Winston script, probably added at the time of the overcoat. Action is on the medium side of medium fast, and to me it is a true 4wt. Sold in original 4-partition gray rod bag and Cal-Air tube with no label.
