For sale here is a rare 8' E.C. Powell 2/2 5wt A-taper bamboo rod. An A-taper by measurement and feel, it has the "tip flexing / butt resisting" character of the coveted Powell A-tapers. Excellent restored condition, featuring medium tempered cane, "2-opposed" nodes, oxidized guides and red agate stripping guide. Copper-bronze windings with full intermediates. Bright ferrules fit perfectly, and all sections are full length and straight. The butt retains what I believe is the original patent script, and white/black wraps indicating semi-hollow cedar core construction. The grip is soiled with light ridging, and the rod is fitted with the classic aluminum & Bakelite reel seat with Marysville CA stamping. Weight is 3.73oz. Action on the faster side of medium fast, an exquisite dry fly rod. Comfortable laying out long leaders at 20' or 60', perfect with a DT5. Sold in the original bag and brass capped tube.
