For sale here is an unusual 7'3" 2/2 5wt Payne rod. The hang tag indicates a "Special Parabolic" 7'3" rod, although on close examination I suspect the rod may have started as a 7'6" or 7'9" Parabolic and was cut down (a 7’3” Payne Parabolic is not a cataloged model). The rod is completely re-wrapped and the ferrules were reset. There is a 1.2" invisible wrap between the top snake guide and the butt ferrule, and a slightly tinted varnish was used to finish the rod. The varnish is in nice shape, and the ferrule bluing remains quite dark. 11.5/64 ferrules fit perfectly and the female has an aftermarket plug. The sections are straight and of equal length. Dark snake guides, white agate stripping guide and strap & ring hook keeper. All cork grip & reel seat with blued cap & ring hardware. The cork is soiled and ridged, and the Payne stamping can be seen on the pocketed butt cap. Weight is 3 1/4oz, which matches the hang tag. The action is interesting; it feels a bit more parabolic than most of the Payne Parabolic rods I've cast. It's hard to determine the whole story on this unusual rod, but it appears to be a Payne and feels like it will be a fun rod to take fishing. Sold in an original Payne tube with partial label affixed, and what appears to be an original Payne rod bag.
