For sale here is an original Julius vom Hofe Fairy fly reel in excellent condition. These reels were made for H.L. Leonard & William Mills to complement the Leonard "Baby Catskill" rods produced in the early 20th century. This reel has black ebonite side plate, aluminum spool and brass spindle. The foot and pillars are nickel silver. 2.35" across pillars with a spool width of 0.72". Best with a 2 or possibly a 3wt line (although you might have to cut a DT3 in half). The reel foot is unmolested, and the click & pawl mechanism works flawlessly with slight RHW bias. The hard rubber has some sun fading, and there is dark lacquer or varnish on all the screw heads. Weight is 2.29oz. A rare and desirable reel: many early Baby Catskill rods require a dainty reel with a small foot to fit their reel seats. This one is sold in an aftermarket leather case.
