Powell, E.C - 8'6" 2/2 4-5wt Bamboo Rod (On Hold)

For sale here is an E.C. Powell 8'6" 2/2 4-5w semi-hollow bamboo rod in very good, restored condition. Medium tempered cane with bright guide, bright ferrules and gold wraps. Black & white wraps at the small snake hook keeper indicate a semi-hollow rod. The script includes the patent number and "Built for Freida Howard by E.C. Powell, Angler". The script is mostly bold and clear, although it is "doubled" in spots. It's possible the script was touched up when the rod was restored, but this rod probably dates from E.C.'s later years and it's possible he had to go back over it twice. Very difficult to tell. It's also hard to determine who performed the refinish, but the grip shape and thread color are good matches for Tony Maslan's work. The sections are straight and full length, and the ferrules fit perfectly. 6.25" grip is soiled and slightly ridged, and the rod is fitted with the standard Powell reel seat. Weight is 3.92oz. Action on the medium side of medium fast, it feels light in the hand and casts well with either a DT4 or DT5. A B-taper rod by feel and measurement. A little lighter and a little more delicate than most 8'6" B-taper rods I've cast. A rather interesting one, sold in the original bag and brass capped tube.
