Phillipson - Smuggler 7'8" 4/1 6wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a scarce Phillipson Smuggler 7'8" 4-piece / single tip bamboo rod in excellent original condition. Introduced in 1952 and dropped by the time the 1953 catalog was released, the Smuggler was a short-lived model and only made in the 7'8", 4 3/4oz configuration. Featuring ammoniated cane and green nylon windings with black tipping. Ferrules fit perfectly and all sections are full length & straight. Script on the butt is bold and clear and includes the original owner's name. Cork grip is clean and smooth, and the rod is fitted with a hunter green anodized reel seat with black hardware. The green anodizing has 1 small imperfection, but the rod looks almost unused. Advertised and actual weight is 4 3/4oz. Designed as the ultimate travel/pack rod, the overall length of the tube is 24.5". Action on the faster side of medium fast, a solid 6wt. A very fine example of a scarce model. Sold in the original bag and aluminum tube with blue & white decal.
