Sold Out
For sale here is a Paul H Young Para 17, 8'6" 2/2 8wt bamboo rod in excellent+ original condition. Serial #3853, made in 1959, just prior to Paul Young's death in April 1960. Medium flamed cane, bright snake guides and Perfection stripping guide, all wrapped in color preserved gold windings. Blued Super-Z ferrules fit perfectly, and all sections are straight, full length & serialized. Delicate gold script on the butt reads "H.R. Shaffer, Sept. '59 - "Parabolic 17" 8 1/2' 5.32oz - A Paul Young Rod", and the writing is in Paul Young's handwriting. 6.5" cork grip is smooth and lightly soiled. Thumb relief on the top of the grip. Black Japanned reel seat hardware over cork spacer. The black finish is in excellent shape and the cork spacer is clean. The rod has clearly seen little use over the years. Actual weight is just a hair over the scripted weight (5.39oz vs 5.32oz). A strong, parabolic 8wt. I prefer it with a WF8 although it may take a DT or WF9 for shorter casts. It loads beautifully with 35-45' of line and when it loads correctly you can feel the power of the rod. One of the finest original Para 17's you are likely to see, made during Paul Young's lifetime. Sold in the original blue technicolor rod bag and B24 "bomber" tube.
