Paul H. Young - General Purpose 8'6" 2/2 7wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is an interesting Paul Young "General Purpose" 8'6" 2/2 7wt bamboo rod. All original, based on the PHY "Texan" taper. Built on a flamed blank with bright guides and black "wind-away" wraps. All sections are straight & full length and the blued Super-Z ferrules fit perfectly. The varnish and cork show the rod's age and use over the years. The rod has 2 issues worth noting: one tip has a small chip just below the tip top, and the butt section has an ~2" open glue line above the first snake guide. Both would merit an invisible wrap before fishing. All cork grip & reel seat with thumb relief and cap & ring hardware. The cork shows significant ridging and soiling, and the morticed reel seat has a red stain. This is a special rod with some history. Originally made for Paul Young's personal use, it was made in 1953 and later sent to Chauncy Lively of Pittsburgh PA to fulfill a request for Lively's wife Marion. All the script on the rod is in Paul Young's handwriting, except for an inscription above the rod data on the butt that reads "Marion Lively - Pittsburgh, PA - Christmas 1955". Notes on the history of this rod can be found on Bob Golder's Paul H. Young Rod Database. Scripted weight is 4.75oz but my scale reads just a hair over that. An interesting and historic rod, although the noted issues should be considered before fishing. Sold in the original bag and aluminum tube with partial label.
