For sale here is a fantastic Paul Young Driggs model bamboo rod. 7'2" 2-piece / 2-tips, excellent+ condition. Made in 1974 during Bob Summer's tenure at PHY. Darkly flamed cane with rubbed oil finish. Dark snake guides & carbide stripping guide, wrapped in dark brown windings. The wraps bounding the signature on the butt section are slightly darker than the rest of the rod, and I suspect the rod was made like this. All sections are straight, full length and serialized (#4678), and the 13/64 ferrules fit perfectly. 2 7/8oz scripted weight, though my scale reads slightly less (2.67oz). Bent loop hook keeper over ventilated cork grip and solid cork reel seat with dual slide bands. All the cork is smooth with minor soiling from careful use. Lovely 4wt action that feels more semi-parabolic, although you can feel the rod flex under the ventilated grip. Designed for delicate casts in brushy creeks, this one is an absolute delight. Originally purchased by R.W. Lancaster, the tartan rod bag is a replacement, sewn by Bob's wife. This was the first cane rod Mr. Lancaster ordered, and the 2-year wait inspired him to start making his own rods (which are also held in high regard!). A beautiful Summers-era example of a scarce and quite desirable taper. Sold in the blue tartan bag and Champion tube.
