For sale here is a hollow built 8'6" 2-piece / 2-tip 5wt bamboo rod from the bench of Japanese rodmaker Kanjiro Nakao. Serial #1703. Constructed of Tonkin cane, the rod weighs 3.67oz and features oxidized snake guides with Mildrum stripper, wrapped in transparent honey silk with oxblood accents and transparent intermediates throughout. Moderately tempered cane with a very pleasing satin finish. The rod is in excellent condition and appears to have been lawn cast only. All sections are straight and full length, the Swiss-style ferrules fit perfectly and the female is fitted with a nickel silver & cork ferrule plug. 6" Powell-style grip is clean and smooth. Bright NS cap and ring reel seat over stabilized burl spacer. A fine casting 5wt, on the faster side of medium fast. It's light in the hand and recovers quickly, an excellent rod for technical dry-fly fishing. Kanjiro's craftsmanship and simple elegance really comes through with this rod, the finishes are perfect.
