Leonard, H.L. - Model 39DF-5, 7'6" 2/2 5wt Bamboo Rod (Maxwell)

For sale here is a Tom Maxwell-era H.L. Leonard 39DF-5 in mint, unfished condition. 7'6" 2-piece / 2-tips for a 5wt, the rod retains the original paper on the grip with clear plastic shrink wrap protecting it. Model information and Bob Taylor's initials are writing on the paper in ball point pen, and the model & serial number are written in Tom Maxwell's hand on the swelled butt. Medium tempered cane with “3-up” nodes and oxidized guides wrapped in blonde windings with dark red accents. All sections are straight, full length & serialized (#8058), and the tips are marked for ease of rotation. Blued ferrules fit perfectly. Strap & ring hook keeper, 5.5" cork grip and cap & ring reel seat over curly maple spacer. All the bluing (ferrules, winding check, cork check, reel seat hardware) is virtually perfect with just a hint of bag wear to the edges of the butt cap. The Leonard roll stamp remains clear & crisp. Weight is 3.89oz. The finish is superb and the 39DF is a fantastic taper. Sold in the original bag and brass capped tube. A rare opportunity to buy a mint Maxwell Leonard, just as it left the shop in 1980.
