Leonard, H.L. - Model 38H, 7' 2/2 4wt Bamboo Rod - Pre-Fire

For sale here is a rare pre-fire Leonard model 38H in excellent original condition. 7' 2-piece / 2-tip, best with a 4wt line. Golden tempered cane with "3-up" nodes and English twist guides wrapped in pale blue silks. White agate stripping guide is blemish free. All sections are straight and full length. 10/64 ferrules fit perfectly and are witness marked. Strap & ring hook keeper, nickel silver winding check and diminutive 5" cork grip (soiled but smooth). Cap & ring reel seat over mortised butternut spacer. The butt cap retains the H.L. Leonard roll stamp with Pat. number on the reverse. A dainty 4wt with action on the medium side of medium fast. The swelled butt gives the rod surprising backbone. The snake guides get tiny towards the tips; there's no fly line I own that will pass through the smallest snake guide, doubled over. Overall, a beautiful and rare light line Leonard rod, sold in the original bag with stiffener & hang tag, and brass capped aluminum tube. From the collection of Per G. Brandin.
