For sale here is an H.L. Leonard Model 38df-4, 7' 2-piece / 2-tip 4wt bamboo rod in excellent+ condition. Serial #519, made during Tom Maxwell's tenure at Leonard. All original except the grip was replaced by Ted Simroe and the serial number on the gently swelled butt was re-written by him. Golden straw-colored cane with "3-up" nodes, oxidized guides and carbide stripper wrapped in transparent tan windings with crimson accents. 12/64 nickel silver ferrules fit perfectly. All sections are straight, full length & serialized. Strap & ring hook keeper with nickel silver winding check and 5" cork grip. The cork is clean and smooth with no signs of use after replacement by Mr. Simroe. Cap & ring reel seat over curly maple spacer. The Leonard roll stamp is clear and crisp on the butt cap. Weight is 3.35oz. Action on the medium side of medium fast, a smooth caster, nice with a DT or WF4. A fine Maxwell Leonard. Sold in the original bag and brass capped aluminum tube with custom tube protector.
