Leonard, H.L. - Model 38-5, 7' 2/2 5wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is an H.L. Leonard Model 38-5, 7' 2-piece / 2-tip 5wt bamboo rod in excellent+ condition. Serial #80156, made during Tom Maxwell's tenure at Leonard and all the script is in his hand. Golden straw-colored cane with "3-up" nodes, dark guides and carbide stripper wrapped in transparent tan windings with crimson accents. Bright nickel silver ferrules fit perfectly. All sections are straight, full length & serialized. Strongly swelled butt with serial number under the hook keeper wraps. Nickel silver winding check over 5.5" tapered grip (smooth with just a whisper of soiling). Nickel silver cap & ring reel seat over maple spacer. The Leonard roll stamp is clear and crisp on the butt cap. Weight is 3.3oz. Pleasant medium fast action, the rod draws plenty of power from the swelled butt and is a delight to cast. A great taper from the Maxwell-era at Leonard. Sold in the original bag and brass capped aluminum tube with custom tube protector.
