For sale here is an H.L. Leonard Model 38-3 Hunt Special, 7' 2/2 3wt bamboo rod in mint condition. Serial #8491, the rod is unused with the paper still on the grip. The culmination of craftmanship in late-era Leonard rod, this rod has all the deluxe features: blued hardware, full intermediate wraps, red agate stripping guide and decorative windings at the ferrules and hook keeper. Ferrules fit perfectly, and all sections are full length, straight & serialized. Tips are marked for ease of rotation. 5" grip and blued cap & ring reel seat over mortised tiger maple spacer. The bluing is as perfect as the day it left the shop, and the H.L. Leonard roll stamp is crisp and clear on the butt cap. Weight is 2.93oz. Medium, 3wt action. This rod is essentially "new old stock", however I have one condition note: one of the tip tops has a hairline crack in the loop. This should be a straightforward fix, but that decision will be up to the next custodian of this spectacular rod. Glenn Brackett provided a very close match to the tip top, and I will include it in the sale. Sold in the original bag and brass capped tube with H.L. Leonard roll stamp on the collar.
