Heddon - #51 Princess, 7' 2/2 Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a scarce Heddon #51 Princess, 7' 2/2 4wt bamboo rod in very good used condition. Only made for a few years during the late 1920's/early 1930's, this one features medium tempered cane with dark guides and fine agate stripping guide wrapped in aged gold windings with black tipping. Matching gold & black intermediates throughout. The sections are straight and full length, and the ferrules fit perfectly. 5" cork grip is clean and smooth with small areas of cork filler on the 2nd and 3rd rings. Tenite checks and blued NS cap & ring reel seat over cork spacer. A dainty 4wt with action on the medium side of medium fast. A few condition considerations, firstly the varnish appears all original and has some checks & chips throughout. There are also a few areas of micro alligatoring and light bag burn. This rod could be fished as is, although a buffing and/or re-varnishing might be in its future. There are a few broken wraps on the agate guide and at the serrations on the female ferrule. Additionally, the strap & ring hook keeper has been re-wrapped, along with two guides on one tip. This same tip is missing a black intermediate wrap between the 3rd & 4th guides. Not a perfect rod, but the cane is intact and it's a fishable example of a rare light line Heddon. These rods were produced during the great depression and very few were ever sold. This one packs into the original velvet bag and aluminum tube with polished chrome cap & collar.
