For sale here is an H.L. Leonard Browntone Deluxe 7'6" 2/2 5wt bamboo rod. Mint condition, lawn cast only. Flamed & impregnated cane with 3x3 nodes, black anodized snake guides and carbide stripping guide. Wraps are pale yellow with dark green tipping. Bright ferrules fit perfectly, and the female is fitted with a machined aluminum plug. All sections are full length, straight & serialized (#3984). 5.5" grip is still encased in plastic, and the rod is fitted with a cap & ring reel seat over fine wood spacer. The pocketed butt cap retains the Leonard roll stamp. Weight is 3.70oz. Medium fast action, it feels like a true 5wt. This rod was sold as part of Larry Foster's personal collection of fine Leonard rods. Foster was the president of the H.L. Leonard Rod Co. shortly before it folded in the mid 1980's. His typewritten notes on this rod are below, a copy of which will be included in the sale. The serial number indicates a 1984 production year; we can be quite certain that very few of these rods were produced prior to the liquidation of the company in 1985. A very fine H.L Leonard rod, sold in the original bag and tube with tube protector.
Foster's notes: "755 Leonard Browntone Deluxe, 7 1/2', 2-piece, 2 tip for a 5 line. This was the first Browntone DELUXE made. It is an outstanding casting rod, never fished, but lawn cast a number of times. Cannot be told that it isn't just completed. This was the prototype of a very popular new Leonard 1984 designed series by myself. Complete with ferrule plugs and overbag"
