For sale here is a Gary Howells 8'6" 4oz 5wt, 2-piece / 2-tip bamboo rod. Serial #4354, made in 1976. The rod is in excellent condition and appears to have seen little use. Bright guides and carboloy stripper wrapped in mahogany windings with gold tipping. All sections are straight & full length, and the 14/64 ferrules fit perfectly. Strap & ring hook keeper, 6" Western grip and up locking reel seat over zebrawood spacer. A beautifully finished rod and a wonderful example of Howells' varnish work. Scripted and actual weight is 4.0oz, the lightest 8'6" Howells rod and one of 18 produced, according to Joe Beelart's book. A nice full working 5wt, capable of protecting very light tippet. Sold in the original bag and tube with Howells Rod Co. data sticker.
