Gillum, H.S. - 9' 3/2 6-7wt Bamboo Rod

For sale here is an early H.S. "Pinky" Gillum 9' 3/2 bamboo rod. All original, the rod is in good condition with one note: each section has some degree of bag imprint. The varnish isn’t in full meltdown, but it has softened in areas and shows chips/checks from honest use. The cane is dark, oven tempered, and the rod is made with high-arch snake guides and Perfections stripping guide. Wraps are chestnut brown with white tipping that has faded to pale yellow. Blued ferrules (11/64 and 17/64) fit perfectly. All sections are full length and serialized (#563), and straight except one tip has a faint fish fighting sweep. Faded script on the butt reads "H.S. Gillum - Custom Built". Strap & ring hook keeper, 6.5" cork grip and down-locking reel seat over African mahogany spacer. The cork is soiled but smooth. 5oz stated weight; my scale reads 5.56oz. Medium action, I like it with a WF6 although it will handle a 7wt line. The label indicates this is a "Trout" taper. Reportedly owned by John Atherton who fished this rod on the Klamath river when visiting family in Oregon. A facsimile of a letter to that effect from Dave McNeese will be included in the sale. This is a rather interesting early Gillum 9-footer, appropriate for heavy trout or light salmon/steelhead fishing. It packs into the original bag and brass capped tube with Pinky Gillum's data label affixed. This is the only original Gillum label I've seen that included a price: a very reasonable $65 plus tax!
